Homework:
Throughout the year, homework is used to reinforce literacy and numeracy skills learned at school. It is expected that each child completes their homework each week. Please do not be afraid to help your child with homework – it is an excellent role-modelling opportunity! If you have any questions about the homework, please email your teacher!
Daily Reading:
It is crucial that your child reads with an adult every night at home. Reading books helps children stimulate their imaginations and expands their understanding of the world. It helps them develop language and listening skills and prepares them to understand the written word.
Munch and Crunch:
Each day we will be having 'Munch and Crunch'. Munch and Crunch gives the students an opportunity to put some nutrition into their bodies and increase their energy to learn at optimum levels. It should be small enough to eat in 5 minutes.
Some examples of foods to bring include: fresh fruit such as apples; mandarins; cut up oranges; seasonal fruit (stone fruit in the summer months); cut up watermelon; bananas; pears; cut up kiwi fruit; grapes; cherry tomatoes – the list is endless. Vegetables such as carrot and celery sticks; snow peas; cooked pumpkin and sweet potato squares; fresh broccoli florets are just some possibilities

Meetings with your child's teacher:
We love discussing your child's learning with you! However, teachers’ mornings and afternoons are jam packed with lesson planning, marking, emails, meetings and so on (the list really is endless). We spend time doing all these things, to ensure your child is successful in their learning. To help us do this, please ensure you have arranged a meeting time via email.
Emails will be responded to within a 24 hour time period Monday to Friday (please understand that emails will not typically be responded to on weekends). For any urgent matters, it is best to phone the office.

St Bernardine's Behaviour Policy
The basis for our behaviour management procedures is our belief in Christian values. We believe that children need to understand that they are responsible for their own behaviours and that we as a school community will support them as they learn how to interact and live within our Christ-centred environment.
A close working relationship with parents is vital and our mutual support of each other will benefit the moral and social development of all children.
As part of an ongoing program, children will be taught about appropriate behaviours, responsibility and choices. They will explore both the positive and negative consequences of their choices.

Late Arrivals and After School Pick-Up:
If your child arrives after 8:40am, please do not drop them off in the drop-off area. Students arriving after 8:40am should be signed in at the office by their parent/guardian. Please do not bring them directly to the classroom as our attendance rolls are marked electronically.
Unless you have signed yourself in at the office (and are wearing a volunteer tag), please remain in the 'Parents Area' until 2:55pm, when the bell rings. . Parents are NOT to wait outside the Year 2 classrooms, as this causes disruptions to classroom routines.

2 White: Miss Erin Coman
Hello Year Two Families!
My name is Erin Coman and I am very excited to be 2 White’s teacher! This is my third year working in our wonderful St Bernardine’s community. I have taught grades 5 and 2 here at St Bernardines, and am very happy to be continuing my time in the early years. I studied at QUT, minoring in Inclusive Education and am currently studying a post graduate certificate in Religious Education at the Australian Catholic University.
When I am not at school teaching, I enjoy travelling, playing touch football and netball, as well as relaxing with my friends and family.
In my classroom I have a strong focus on building positive relationships with the students, finding out their strengths as well as aspects I can help build their confidence and skills in. We will be doing a lot of work on growth mindset in 2 White and how we can think in an ‘I can attitude’.
I am looking forward to working together with you and your families to make 2019 a fabulous year!
